The Rotary Club of Sequim was chartered on June 11th, 1930 so we will be celebrating our 80th anniversary this Rotary year!

In preparation for my year as president, I realized that the experience level of our individual members was very impressive so I am grateful for the opportunity to lead our club through its 80th anniversary year.  In 1970, District Governor Harry Brenn came from our club.  In 1980, District Governor Cy Frick followed.  Then, in 1986, our club sponsored formation of the Sequim Sunrise Rotary.

For the past 50 years, our club has organized Sequim's Irrigation Festival Parade.  For 41 years, we have sponsored the annual Rotary Salmon Bake.  Our club was the original sponsor of Boy Scout Troop 90 (now 1490).  From 1976 to 1980, we worked with the Sequim High School carpentry class to build and sell affordable housing in Sequim.  In 1980, we held a fundraiser and matched money with the public library system to build a new library building in Sequim.  Then, in 1989, we sponsored and helped establish the Boys & Girls Club in Sequim.

Every year, we give 4th grade students new big dictionaries of their very own.  We give scholarships to graduating Sequim High School seniors.  We give money to the Boys & Girls Club, to Scouting, to the Sequim-Dungeness Wellness Clinic and to the Sequim Food Bank and other local charities.  We give to help disaster victims and to prevent the spread of polio as well as to a number of other Rotary projects.

All things considered, it is a great honor and a lot of fun to work with men and women who live Rotary's principle of "Service Above Self", and its unique code of ethics expressed in the "Four Way Test".

This coming year, we will continue to add to our club's list of noteworthy accomplishments as we work side-by-side to serve the people of our community and the world.

With gratitude and respect,

Dick Hughes, President
